Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has urged the public to follow weather forecasts and adhere to government guidance to protect lives and property amid concerns over El Niño-related rainfall.
TMA Director General Dr Ladislaus Chang’a said Tanzanians should continue with their economic and social activities while taking into account weather information issued by the authority to minimise potential risks.
Speaking on Wednesday during Mwananchi Space, an online discussion hosted by Mwananchi, Dr Chang’a emphasised that access to weather information must be accompanied by practical action to reduce the impact of potentially hazardous conditions.
The discussion, held under the theme “El Niño Rains: What Should Be Done to Prepare for Their Impacts?”, focused on measures the public should take to guard against weather-related risks.
Dr Chang’a said following official forecasts and instructions from government leaders would help save lives, protect property, improve safety and support the smooth running of daily activities.
He cautioned against conducting social and economic activities without considering weather updates, particularly when forecasts include warnings of conditions that could disrupt communities and livelihoods.
The TMA chief urged the public to make weather information part of their daily decisions, enabling individuals and communities to take appropriate precautions while continuing their normal activities.
