Qatar. In a move aimed at boosting skills development and strengthening ties between Tanzania and Qatar, the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Qatar, Habibu Awesi Mohamed, met with the management of Mowasalat (Karwa) Academy in Doha on May 14, 2025.
The meeting, held at the Academy’s headquarters, focused on opportunities for bilateral cooperation in areas such as professional driver training, technical and maintenance expertise, and logistics development.
Ambassador Awesi commended Karwa Academy for its longstanding role in offering high-quality training in transport and vehicle maintenance since its establishment in 2007, particularly its support to Tanzanian nationals over the years.

Expressing Tanzania’s deep appreciation to the Government of Qatar and the Academy’s leadership, the Ambassador proposed a number of collaborative initiatives to formalize and expand this cooperation.
These included partnerships with Tanzanian institutions such as the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) and the National Institute of Transport (NIT), staff exchange programs, and technical attachments to facilitate mutual knowledge sharing.
He went further to suggest the establishment of a Karwa Academy branch in Dar es Salaam, highlighting how such a presence could simplify future recruitment and build sustainable training pathways for Tanzanian youth.

To move this agenda forward, the Ambassador invited a technical delegation from the Academy to visit Tanzania for joint exploration and pledged reciprocal engagement from Tanzanian counterparts.
Representing Karwa Academy, Mr Mahmoud Ghalab, Senior Learning and Development Specialist, welcomed the Ambassador’s proposals and confirmed the Academy’s readiness to partner through formal agreements such as Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
He pointed out specific areas for immediate collaboration, including support for Tanzanian drivers to obtain Qatari driving licenses and expanding educational opportunities for Tanzanian trainees at the Academy.
Mr Ghalab also expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of opening a Karwa Academy branch in Tanzania and agreed on the importance of institutional visits between both countries.
He noted that these ideas could be formally captured in an MoU between Mowasalat and key Tanzanian government offices, including the Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, and the President’s Office – Labour, Economy and Investment in Zanzibar.

Beyond institutional cooperation, the meeting also explored ways to support the Tanzanian diaspora in Qatar.
Planned initiatives include specialized driver training, easier access to licensing, and summer camps for children aged 6 to 14, focusing on road safety, interpersonal skills, and early career guidance within the transport sector.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a mutually beneficial partnership focused on economic development, skills transfer, and improved welfare for citizens in both nations.
