NEMC Engages 1,400 Stakeholders with Environmental Education at Nane Nane Exhibitions

Dodoma. The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has reached approximately 1,450 stakeholders with education on environmental conservation and sustainable management during this year’s Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibitions.

Through its exhibition pavilions at the Nzuguni grounds in Dodoma and the John Mwakangale grounds in Mbeya, NEMC raised public awareness on the importance of protecting the environment for the benefit of present and future generations.

The campaign targeted stakeholders from various sectors and formed part of NEMC’s broader mission to promote sustainable practices. At its exhibition stands, NEMC showcased best practices in climate-smart agriculture, sustainable livestock keeping, safe fishing methods, and the protection of water sources.

Visitors also learned about the importance of conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) before starting development projects—especially in agriculture—to minimize negative impacts on the environment.

One of the key messages emphasized during the exhibitions was the need for investors to register their projects with NEMC to obtain environmental certificates, a legal requirement for operating in compliance with environmental standards.

NEMC experts further highlighted the direct and indirect effects of human activities such as uncontrolled burning, deforestation, and indiscriminate waste disposal on ecosystems—warning that such practices contribute to climate change, soil erosion, and water scarcity.

“We encourage investors to play an active role in protecting the environment. The education we provide forms the foundation for making sound policy, economic, and social decisions that safeguard our environmental future,” said Ms Dalia Kilamlya, an Environmental Officer at NEMC.

According to the council, the response from stakeholders was strong and encouraging, offering hope for positive changes in how communities engage in environmental protection and conservation.

President remarks

During the Nane Nane celebrations in Dodoma, President Samia Suluhu Hassan commended the progress made in the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors.

“This year, we have set another record with the launch of the National Agricultural Laboratory in Dodoma. This will ensure the safety of the food we consume and export, thereby attracting more buyers,” President Samia said.

She noted that the government has implemented measures to strengthen these sectors, including facilitating access to capital, markets, and subsidies, as well as promoting the use of quality fertilizers and improved seeds.

“I urge citizens to apply the knowledge gained—especially the use of technology and modern production techniques—to increase productivity in your activities. And, as the theme of this year’s exhibitions emphasizes, let us prepare to elect capable leaders who will champion the development of these sectors,” she concluded.
